Launceston team looking for a local victory |
The Launceston-based team of Les Walkden Rallying is hoping that a Queenslander, Tony Longhurst, can deliver it victory in this year’s Targa Tasmania.
Walkden is an icon of Tasmanian motorsport, and while he occasionally still gets behind the wheel of a car to race, these days he prefers to orchestrate his team’s campaign from the service park.

Longhurst just misses podium in Rally Tasmania |
Two-time Bathurst 1000 winner, Tony Longhurst, has finished a strong fourth in the Rally Tasmania, held around Burnie in north west Tasmania this weekend. Driving his Les Walkden Rallying-prepared Subaru Impreza WRX STI, the Gold Coast driver was unable to match the speed of the leading Nissan GTR of Tony Quinn and Porsche 911of Jim Richards over the final day’s stages, but was happy with his performance. |

Reeves secures fourth place in Rally Tasmania |
Twenty-year old Victorian, Brendan Reeves, has finished fourth in the all-tarmac round of the Australian Rally Championship at Rally Tasmania, despite not having driven a turbo, four-wheel drive rally car since 2007. Driving for the Les Walkden Rallying team, Reeves and his co-driving sister, Rhianon Smyth, finished the 17 stage, 206 competitive kilometre event on the north west coast of Tasmania with only three vastly more experienced competitors ahead of them. |
